I'm pretty satisfied with the lights in my house now but there's plenty more I would still love to be able to control from my phone. Rather than replacing everything in my home it made sense to try and find something to control my existing stuff. Like with most things though there is a cheap Chinese alternative — the Broadlink RM.
The device itself is nice enough. It's neat, compact, and the design kinda reminds me of the Mac Pro. It's app however leaves much to be desired at least on iOS. It feels like it hasn't been updated since iOS 7 was released but it does its job and I was able to setup the RM Mini 3 to turn on my TV and Amp within a few minutes of taking it out of the box.Voice Control Almost Anything with the Broadlink RM Pro Review and Setup with Alexa
Now that's all well and good but the goal was to get the thing working with HomeKit so I can use Siri and access it from Control Centre on my iPhone and iPad.
HomeBridge of course was the solution to this. I already had my HomeBridge instance running on a Pi Zero for my lights and LED strips so it was just a case of installing and configuring an additional plugin. This fantastic plugin does absolutely everything you could want. It supports sending multiple codes via a single switch, repeat sending codes for volume up etc. Point your remote at the RM and press the button you want to know the code of and it will be printed out in your HomeBridge terminal for you to use.
Configuration is very simple and is simply a case of adding a platform and then the accessories you want to create. I'll likely expand upon this to be able to change the input on my TV and increase or decrease the volume. The config-sample. Now I fully accept that controlling my TV from my phone may seem redundant considering the remote is sat just a few feet away from me on the coffee table.
However the idea of being able to turn the TV on when I'm away to make it seem like someone is home, or to turn a fan or air conditioning on when a certain temperature is detected by a HomeKit sensor, or to control existing IR or RF sockets is very appealing to me.

That is, in the case of performing some external conditions - you need to make the necessary action by the selected device.
It is necessary to understand that an external condition is first fixed, only after that the specified action is performed. What external conditions can we work with?
With any manifestations of the external environment, which we can fix with the help of special sensors. In detail about these devices you can read on our site, we will not dwell on them.
The main thing now is to highlight that these products include temperature, humidity, air quality, light and noise sensors, motion and door sensors. How to make all home devices interact depending on the data that the sensors collect?
That is, you specify certain indicators of the external environment, for example, "High level of light," and indicate the action to be taken when this condition is fulfilled, for example, "close the blinds. Why if you can fully automate the process? The sensor in E-Air will measure the room temperature with an accuracy of 0.
The second example is that you go into a dark room and start to feel the switch to the touch. And what if the light turns on automatically when the front door opens? For this, once set up the interaction between the door opener and the Smart TC switch, never to worry about it again in the future. Support System: IOS 7. Support Wifi 2. Latest available Broadlink package is v0. Time to break it out I think. But it seems to break down when handling the reply. I have posted a new version, v0. It is available in the first post. It works now, but it's pretty finicky.
It seems like there is a timing issue in the communication, at least on my system. Maybe since learnIR is able to be re-attempted manually, you could just retry on ERROR for a reasonable amount of time when the learning process is initiated? I also used it successfully with some of the stored codes I have from rob 's broadlinkgo implementation. Pretty cool! The learnIR function already uses a 30 second timeout, and the learnRF function uses a 30 second timeout per step. If the learnIR function is giving you trouble, please post the log of the function being executed so I can figure out whats going wrong.
I've got amazon. But I don't have the device so if somone test it let me know, either way cybrmage feel free to crib from my code, if this works better, I'll be happy to stop using my own, less dependency is best! Yes, absolutely I didn't mean to suggest that you don't support it now, just to point out the difference between hardware models and a source for device fingerprints.
They all support the same communications methods and protocol, regardless of branding. The different device IDs differentiate between various different brandings and hardware revisions, BUT the protocol hides them, and the protocol is all the same If you get a device with an ID that is not in the list A single line of code will resolve that
